Standard Operating Procedures: Investigators¶
Role: INVESTIGATOR
Purpose: To manage the end-to-end investigation lifecycle, from case assignment to evidence gathering and compliance.
Daily Checklist (Start of Shift)¶
- Check Notifications: Review alerts for new case assignments or task deadlines.
- Review Calendar: Check for scheduled interviews, court appearances, or team briefings.
- Priorities: Filter My Cases by "High Severity" or "Due Soon" to focus efforts.
Core Workflows¶
1. New Case Assignment¶
When a supervisor assigns a case to you: 1. Review the Case Overview and Intake Report. 2. Assess the Risk Flags (e.g., Imminent Harm). 3. Go to the Plan tab (if available) or create a Task list for initial steps. 4. Action: Contact the complainant within 24 hours to verify details.
2. Evidence Collection¶
When seizing devices or collecting physical evidence: 1. Safety First: Ensure the scene is secure. 2. Log Seizure: Use the Seizures module to record the location and time. 3. Tag & Bag: Physically tag the item. 4. Digital Entry: Immediately register the item in the Evidence tab. * Critical: Record the specific serial number. 5. Chain of Custody: Adding the initial entry is mandatory. Set "From" as Location/Owner and "To" as Yourself.
3. Requesting Warrants¶
If legal authority is needed: 1. Draft the affidavit offline. 2. Go to Legal Instruments. 3. Click Add Instrument. 4. Upload the draft application or signed warrant. 5. Status: Mark as Requested until signed by a judge.
Critical Compliance¶
Zero Tolerance
- Never share your login credentials.
- Always lock your workstation when stepping away.
- Do not delete evidence records without written authorization.
- Report any conflict of interest immediately to your supervisor.
